Qik has released into public Beta their service that allows a ‘regular’ (“Mass Market”, no smartphone needed) Cell phone to stream video to the Internet. First supported is over a dozen Nokia and Sony phones like: Nokia 5300, Nokia 6300, Nokia 6500, Nokia 6555, Nokia 8800, Sony Ericsson G502, Sony Ericsson K660i, Sony Ericsson K850i, Sony Ericsson K858c, Sony Ericsson W890i, Sony Ericsson W908c, Sony Ericsson W910i, and Sony Ericsson Z750i.
Now is the best time to start playing with the technology. We are exploring using the streaming in meetings and at events so that people who can’t make it in person are able to join via their desktop. Without spending a lot of time setting up a computer and camera, just use a cell phone’s built in camera.
Just go to Qik’s site, register and start streaming at no charge.
